The Leather: Why Badalassi Carlo
Everything in this collection is made from leather sourced from the Badalassi Carlo Tannery in Italy. One of the most respected vegetable tanneries in the world. Vegetable tanning is a slow, traditional process that uses natural plant-based tannins instead of chemicals. The result is leather that's denser, more durable, and holds its shape compared to conventionally tanned hides.
What that means practically: the leather is firm when new and breaks in over time, developing a patina that's entirely your own. No two pieces age the same way.
Color and Patina
Vegetable-tanned leather develops a patina with use, meaning the color deepens, the surface takes on a slight sheen, and the piece begins to reflect your habits and environment. This isn't wear. It's character, and it's one of the things that makes this leather worth investing in.
The Sapphire and Ridglea Rouge colorways are particularly striking as they age. The tones deepen and shift in ways that pull out the natural variation in the hide.
The Cork Backing
Both the mouse pad and coasters use a natural cork backing. Cork doesn't scratch desk surfaces, and provides a firm, stable base without adding bulk. It's the same reason cork is used in high-end flooring and wine closures, it's a naturally grippy, resilient material that holds up without any treatment.
Custom Orders and Engraving
Every leather good in this collection can be engraved. Simple text, initials, a name, or a short phrase typically doesn't add to production time. For logos or custom artwork, we'll follow up with a mockup before we cut. Custom requests are welcome. Reach out before you order if you need something beyond our standard offerings.

Frequently Asked Questions
What leather do you use?
All of our leather goods are made from leather sourced from the Badalassi Carlo Tannery in Florence, Italy. It's a vegetable-tanned leather, meaning it's processed using natural plant-based tannins rather than synthetic chemicals. The result is a dense, high-character leather that breaks in over time and develops a patina unique to how you use it.
What is vegetable-tanned leather and why does it matter?
Vegetable tanning is one of the oldest and most labor-intensive methods of processing leather. It produces leather that's firmer, denser, and more responsive to use than chrome-tanned alternatives. It's also more environmentally responsible. The trade-off is cost and time, but the result is leather that lasts decades and looks better as it ages.
Will the leather develop a patina?
Yes, and that's a feature. Badalassi Carlo leather deepens in color and develops a natural sheen with use. Every piece ages differently depending on how it's carried, what it's exposed to, and the natural variation in the hide. Over time your leather good becomes completely unique to you.
How do I care for my leather goods?
For everyday cleaning, wipe with a dry cloth. If the leather gets wet, blot it dry and let it air out naturally. Don't apply heat. Every few months, apply a small amount of leather conditioner (we recommend a natural beeswax-based conditioner or a product like Leather Honey) to keep the leather supple and protected. Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, which can fade the color over time.
What's the difference between the Micro Wallet and the Minimalist Bifold?
Our Micro Wallet is the most minimal option we make, built purely for cards and a few bills. The Minimalist Bifold offers a bit more capacity with two external card slots for quick access and two internal card slots, great for ID's, cards, and folded bills. All this while staying slim enough for everyday front-pocket carry. If you carry mostly cards, go micro. If you need to carry a little more, the bifold is the better fit.
Can I get my leather piece engraved?
Yes. Simple text, initials, a name, or short phrase typically doesn't add to production time. For logos or custom artwork, send us a message or submit a custom engraving request. We'll send you a mockup for approval before we cut, which may add a day or two to the timeline. Reach out before placing your order, and we'll work through the details.
What is the cork backing on the mouse pad and coasters?
Natural cork provides a firm base that protects your desk surface without scratching it. It's stable, durable, and doesn't require any treatment or maintenance. The cork and leather combination keeps both pieces grounded on your desk with minimal sliding.
Where are these made?
Every piece is handmade in our Fort Worth, Texas workshop. We cut, stitch, hand-rub, and engrave every piece in-house. The leather comes from Italy; the craftsmanship is our own.

How long does production take?
Most orders ship within 1-3 business days. Engraved orders with simple text typically fall within the same window. Custom artwork orders may take a day or two longer depending on mockup approval.
Do you offer custom orders?
Yes! Whether that's a specific engraving, a bulk or gifting order, or something else you have in mind, reach out before you order and we'll see what we can do.
